Privacy policy

1. Software suite offered by Strategway.com

Strategway.com offers two pieces of open-source software: Passim, a mobile application to perform public transportation surveys (view it on Google Play), and Jupiter, to view gathered data.

The local demo installation of Jupiter is hosted at http://passim.demo.strategway.com. This server is intended for demonstration purposes only. You are supposed to install your own Jupiter server to collect survey data for your organization. If you would like to do that, find a Python developer with Linux system administration skills, and they will do it for you.

2. Privacy policy for the Strategway Passim mobile application

The application is intended to collect surveyor’s geographical coordinates with the highest precision possible. To do this, the application keeps the GPS receiver on and collects location data in the background, even if you lock the screen or switch to another application.

This data is not saved or sent anywhere, and the GPS receiver is turned on just for it to keep “warm”. Otherwise, our users complained that obtaining GPS coordinates after unlocking the screen takes too much time, and they can’t correctly tie passenger data to a specific bus stop.

The application also asks you to enter your name and email address. None of these is sent to the server. You can enter any fake name you like; it’s only intended to identify your survey data to the survey’s forepersons. The email address you enter is used to invoke your phone’s email client, helping you to send yourself a reminder that a survey file was uploaded. Sending the email is completely optional and can be skipped. So, like with the name, you can enter a fake email address as well.

The data you send from the mobile application to the demo installation of Jupiter is available for everyone to view on the web page. It’s not encrypted in any way. If you would like to keep your collected data available only to your organization, install your own Jupiter instance.

With the demo instance of Jupiter, users cannot create their own accounts; they can only use the built-in “demo” account. If you would like to use multiple accounts, set up their own Jupiter instance.
